What a historic and amazing event the co hosted ITF and WTF Taekwon-do competition was. The event was part of the 2014 NQ Games, conjointly hosted by Authentic Taekwon-do Townsville and Taekwondo Queensland.
The competition saw 110 competitors from many different styles of Taekwon-do competing together or in their own style, depending on the event. The competition was overseen by Senior Master Jamie Moore, representing the ITF, and Master Kate Edgar, State operations manager for TKDQLD and Master Frank Frost, State sparring coach TKDQLD. The dedicated blackbelt team of officials from Authentic Taekwon-do Townsville ensured a smooth and professional delivery of the event, facilitating all the ITF and combined events. The management team from TKDQLD were both professional and courteous in the operation of the WTF sparring and Poomse ring.
There were many great events, with both seasoned competitors and first timers alike walking away with medals across various events. We had competitors crossing the threshold into both ITF and WTF events, while belonging to the other system, such a great display of sportsmanship.
I must sincerely thank the Umpires, officials, and competitors from Authentic Taekwon-do Townsville, you really were a leading example of what Taekwon-do is. A big thank you to the behind the scenes helpers in the canteen, set up and cleanup crews. Also a special mention to Anthony Baxter for supplying the truck and helpers to move the equipment both ways.
Yours in Taekwon-do,
Sabum Nigel Paul
